There are many people who enjoy soy candles and there are many reasons why these people enjoy using soy candles. They can only be enjoyed though if they know how to use them safely. There are several guidelines that should be followed if you want to do just this.
1. Never leave a burning candle unattended
This has got to be the number one rule about burning candles or indeed about any situation where you are using fire. An unattended candle can be a very dangerous thing. If it gets out of control, it can potentially cause a lot of damage in a short amount of time. If you have to leave the candle for any amount of time, put it out first.
2. Keep candles out of reach of children and pets
Children and pets are not always careful and could easily knock a lit candle over, risking injury or causing a fire. Even though soy wax candles burn at a lower temperature than other types of candles, it is still safer to keep children and pets at a safe distance.
3. Only burn candles on a heat resistant, level, stable surface
You should not burn soy candles on anything that could catch on fire. Use something heat resistant to stand them on, such as a metal candle holder. Always make sure that they are standing on a level, stable surface so that they cannot tip over.
4. Keep candles away from curtains, lampshades, plants or hanging objects
Make sure there is nothing hanging nearby that could catch on fire. If a fire starts, there could be a lot of damage done to your property.
5. Remove all packaging before burning
This is to ensure there is nothing attached to your soy candles that could catch on fire. Remove all wrappers, bows and decorations to avoid any potential risk.
6. Always extinguish a candle and allow it to cool before moving it
Moving around a lit soy candle can be dangerous if the person carrying it trips, drops it or bumps into another person, due to the flame. It must be allowed to cool first so there is no chance of any hot melted wax being spilt as well.
7. Use a candle snuffer to extinguish a candle
Blowing out a lit candle could cause melted wax to be blown out of the candle, coating whatever is behind it in hot wax. A candle snuffer extinguishes a candle by depriving it of oxygen, ensuring that it is put out safely.
By following these guidelines, you too can enjoy your candles in safety.
